SEO – Search Engine Optimisation

We’re good with SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), the art of getting your site to bring in more visitors from search engines, at no cost per click. We’re especially good at SEO troubleshooting – working out why your site used to rank and suddenly doesn’t rank any more.

How can we help you?

  • Investigate sudden SEO failures?

About 70% or so of web users will use a search engine of some sort in an online session. Appearing to those users when they are looking for products and services is important for driving more business to your website, and helps increase brand awareness. SEO is the way that you show up for those users, and help to displace competitors.

We’re not the same as the usual SEO agencies. We do research into why SEO techniques work, and fail. We’ve especially done a lot of work on understanding how search engines crawl websites – because that’s how search engines develop an understanding of what the web site is about. We’ve also done research on how much and what kind of activity you get on your web site, when you create a backlink – and the likely impact on search results. And we also know when you can have duplicate content and how to make it work for you, not against you.

Your business must appear elsewhere on the web, not just on your website – partly because you need to be where your audience is. In the early days of the web, this off-site appearance often meant banner advertising. Now? The line between “social media” and SEO is so blurred that when you are where your audience is, the result is part social media and part SEO. You have to use social media effectively, because business reputation is part of the new SEO – businesses with a poorer reputation won’t appear as highly as businesses that users love.

You’ve probably seen or been sold “backlinks” or “quality article writing” services. These are standard SEO agency activities and largely ineffective after the first couple of months, because Google has a whole team whose job is to find and ignore these activities. These techniques work for about six weeks – and that’s why most SEO agencies sell you monthly packages of links; they buy the links and articles from third world economy workers, and sell them to you. You’re on a monthly payment treadmill, paying for embarrassing articles and backlinks that Google is working hard to exclude – why?

You need to make an impact on your audience. You have to get your message in front of them. And you need your audience to like what you’ve written, spoken or filmed – because content isn’t just text any more. The more that users like what you’ve done for them, the more likely you are to do well in search rankings – because that’s exactly what Google is looking for.
